Being pregnant, especially for the first time, is a new and exciting experience. It can also feel frustrating and uncomfortable, especially when it comes to figuring out what to wear. I’m one of those women who basically ends up looking and feeling like a beached whale while pregnant. Toward the end the only thing I can fit into is my husbands’ giant sweat pants or a tent-like mu-mu. At that point I can barely move and certainly don’t feel very beautiful. If you’re anything like me, I recommend you have your maternity photos taken at the beginning of your third trimester, instead of at the end.
For a casual shoot, wear form fitting tops that will show off that baby bump. The cute tops pictured above are from flybelly.com. Avoid blousy, ruffly or patterned tops that minimize that belly (for once in your life you get to celebrate the curves so I say accentuate, accentuate, accentuate!) If you have a tent dress style top that you really love, consider belting it under the bust to make it more fitted. Add a little bling if you’d like but don’t go overboard on the jewelry, as it can be distracting. Bring several outfits if you like.
For some extra pampering, consider having your hair and make-up done by a professional. I offer this service on location as an add-on to any photo session package. It’s affordable and a great way to help you celebrate this special time in your life that will pass so quickly (even though you might feel like it’s dragging on forever…)
