I’ve been doing a lot of photo editing lately. While I’m happy to remove a blemish here or a wrinkle there, I’m learning that it’s impossible to fake the beauty that comes from confidence and health. Taking good care of yourself shines through every single day, not just in your portraits. For this reason I have created a new series for the blog entitled “Camera Ready: Health & Beauty.” I’ll feature health and beauty tips, salon, gym and product reviews. And maybe some gorgeous pictures of people who are taking great care of themselves…
Since summer is finally here (yay!) the best tip I can offer today is to protect your skin. I discovered recently that harmful cancer causing UVA rays are actually shining down on us all year long, not just during the summer. And, unlike UVB rays, they don’t burn our skin, so we’re not likely to cover up.
During summer sun exposure, protect yourself and your family by covering up as much as possible. Wear a brimmed hat, sleeves and sunglasses. Generously slather a sunscreen that offers both UVA and UVB protection to exposed areas of the skin. I’ve been using Rodan + Fields SPF 30 Body Sunscreen (which you can get for FREE right now, when you place a product order by July 31st) and lip shield. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, too.
I have to confess, I use a Foaming Sunless Tanner, too, since actual tanning will cause major aging and damage to our skin. I still can’t believe I used to go fry myself in a tanning bed or at the lake back in the day.
